Description: This project is a pioneering effort to create geo-spatial database on vegetation cover types, disturbance regimes and biological richness. The spatial data have also been linked with the species database of Botanical Survey of India-Red Data Book and field sample data laid down in the different strata of vegetation. Attempts have also been made to overlay Botanical Survey of India-Red Data Book-species locations (as indicated habitats) on the maps generated in the present study.

Description: EcoMAP (Ecological Mapping Analysis and Protocols) is a suite of geospatial data sets and analysis applications which has been developed by GeoInsight Corporation and A.M. Turner and Associates over the past three years with support from a number of government agencies. EcoMAP is built on the premise that by aggregating diverse data sets to a common geographic framework, spatial analysis can be used to derive and present complex ecological information. Such information is needed to guide the development of consistent policies and programs which are required for conservation and sustainable resource management. Parts of the EcoMAP database have also been used to present a national perspective of many ecological themes through the National Atlas of Canada. In order to provide continuity the EcoMAP name has been adopted for the National Atlas ecological module.

Description: The Greenbelt Act, 2005 enables the creation of a Greenbelt Plan to protect about 1.8 million acres of environmentally sensitive and agricultural land in the Golden Horseshoe from urban development and sprawl.
These data are made up of three categories:
# Outer boundary and greenbelt designations (Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing) Includes boundaries for the protected country, the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Niagara Escarpment.
# Greenbelt Natural Heritage System boundary (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources) Identifies areas of the Greenbelt Protected Countryside with the highest concentration of the most sensitive and/or significant natural features and functions as outlined in section 3.2 and schedule 4 of the Greenbelt Plan. Also includes the external connections layer which identifies the river valley connections references in section 3.2.5. These connections identify linkages beyond the Greenbelt Natural Heritage system through existing or approved urban areas to inland lakes and Lake Ontario. [...see metadata in unzipped file download]
# Greenbelt Selected Wildlife Habitat (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources) Locations of deer wintering areas.
