Digital Chart of the World ()

Date:
Creator: ESRI
Datum:
Projection:
Scale: 1:1000000
Access: Web
Description:
The Digital Chart of the World (DCW) is an Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) product originally developed for the US Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) using DMA data. We used the DCW 1993 version at 1:1,000,000 scale. The DMA data sources are aeronautical charts, which emphasize landmarks important from flying altitudes. This explains why there is a separate aeronautical theme with all conceivable airports, yet why on some themes small islands and lakes are simply unnamed points. ESRI, in compiling the DCW, also eliminated some detail and made some assumptions for handling tiny polygons and edgematching. Also, note that the completeness of the thematic categories present in each layer will vary. Please read the layer descriptions (through links in the following table).

Description:
The International Observatory of the North (ION) offers real-time reception, processing, and delivery of imagery and information products from a variety of polar-orbiting satellites. Currently, ION receives real-time data from NASA's EOS Terra and Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer; MODIS (since August 2001) and NOAA's operational satellites carrying the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer; AVHRR (since August 1993). Our high-latitude locality affords enhanced reception opportunities for the polar-orbiting satellites we track; on average, ION receives ~20 AVHRR passes and 15 MODIS passes per day. ION offers customized image processing, algorithm development and delivery of data in near-real-time as well as an extensive archive of MODIS and AVHRR over the western Arctic. A growing collection of Landsat data is also available.

Orthorectified and Principal Component RADARSAT-1 Image Dataset for NTS 73M, Alberta 2003 ()

Date:
Creator: Alberta Energy & Utilities Board. Alberta Geological Survey.
Datum:
Projection:
Scale:
Access: CD-ROM [157 & 158]
Description:
Image data contained on the two CDs are not fully calibrated. Radiometric and/or spatial accuracy is not guaranteed. The image dataset is in ER Mapper raster format. An ER Mapper raster dataset comprises two files: the dataset header file and the data file. The dataset header file is an ASCII file describing the raster data in the data file. It includes information on data type, coordinate system, cell size, bands, extent and other information. It may be viewed by a text editor, such as Wordpad or Notepad. The data file contains the data itself. The raster data are stored in a binary, Band-Interleaved-by-Line (BIL) format with a pixel data type defined in the accompanying header file. The image is in unsigned 8-bit integer format and projected to UTM zone 12 with a datum of NAD83. The pixel size is 12.5 m. There are two image datasets, one on each CD. The first CD contains the orthorectified NTS 73M image dataset, which includes four bands, or channels, to accommodate Standard Beam Mode 1 (S1) ascending/descending images and Standard Beam Mode 7 (S7) ascending/descending images. The second CD contains the orthorectified principal component (PC) NTS 73M image dataset, which includes four bands to accommodate the PC1, PC2, PC3 and PC4 images.

Seamless Digital Chart of the World Version 3.01, 2004 ()

Date:
Creator: Global Mapping International
Datum:
Projection:
Scale:
Access: CD-ROM [202]
Description:
This product is a globally seamless adaptation of the U.S. Government's Digital Chart of the World (Vector Smart Map Level 0 [VMap0], Edition 5) produced by Global Mapping International in ESRI shapefile format, with added country polygons and updated first-level subdivisions of countries. The underlying Digital Chart of the World was developed by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (now the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency)of the U.S. government. GMI has merged the DCW into seamless, global shapefile layers (the original consists of four separate libraries, each divided into dozens of tiles). GMI has also provided sample map project and layer files applying appropriate cartographic symbology to the complex classification system of VMap0). The VMap0 data was compiled from the Operational Navigational Chart (ONC) series of air navigation maps with a scale of 1:1,000,000. Full information about VMAP Level 0, edition 5 is contained in MIL-PRF-89039 "PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION - VECTOR SMART MAP (VMap) Level 0" as amended (VMAP0_spec.pdf) GMI has also provided sample map project and layer files applying appropriate cartographic symbology to the complex classification system of VMap 0 when using the shapefiles in ArcGIS version 8.3 and above.
