Description: The Bedrock Geology Data Set is a Geological map of the Province and shows the distribution of bedrock units underlying Ontario. It illustrates geological rock types, major faults, iron formations, Kimberlite Intrusions and dike swarms. The geology of the Province consists of Precambrian rocks of the Canadian Shield and Phanerozoic sedimentary rocks in basins that overlie the Canadian Shield. Based on differences in age, metamorphism and tectonic setting, the Precambrian rocks are subdivided into the Superior, Southern and Grenville provinces. The Phanerozoic rocks occur in four basins. Major faults and shear zones are also included. The legend is subdivided geochronologically in the Phanerozoic, but geochronometrically in the Proterozoic and Archean. The Archean rocks of the Superior Province are subdivided into lithologic units. Supracrustal units of the Southern Province and the Phanerozoic Eon are subdivided lithostratigraphically. The Grenville Province is subdivided into major tectonic blocks and within each block the legend is mainly lithologic, with only part of the supracrustal rock record subdivided into lithostratigraphic units. The dataset is an overview of this geology on a Provincial Compilation scale of 1:250 000 and it illustrates geological rock types, major faults, iron formations, kimberlite and dike swarms.

Description: he Electronic Map covers the whole of England and Wales, and is organised by Ordnance Survey Sheet number. The map consists of scanned bitmap images of the Ordnance Survey one inch to the mile (1:63,360) New Popular Edition maps (1945-8) with National Grid. It contains the boundaries of some 18,233 places, and is arranged as three electronic 'layers'. The first is a scan of the Ordnance Survey maps stored as grey tone sheet images. This enables Ordnance Survey physical, cultural and place-name content to be readily visible in the background for orientation and general location purposes, while not obscuring the added boundary and reference number material. The second layer consists of the boundaries, stored as solid red lines; and the third layer contains the reference numbers that link places on the map to the gazetteer/metadata dataset that accompanies the maps.
The maps are available on CD-ROM in Adobe Illustrator™ v.6 (£45 plus P&P) or Adobe Acrobat PDF™ (£15 plus P&P). Adobe Illustrator format is recommended if you already have the software (as it enables you to edit the maps and select the layers to view). However, the Adobe Acrobat PDF format is perfectly suitable for viewing the maps, and the the necessary reader software will be supplied.

Description: Geophysical maps of the Northern Territory
NTGS produces four Territory-wide geophysical products:
* Magnetic map of the Northern Territory (2004)
* Radiometric map of the Northern Territory (2004)
* Elevation map of the Northern Territory (2004)
* Gravity map of the Northern Territory (2004).
These maps represent the culmination of several decades of work since the Bureau of Mineral Resources [BMR, now Geoscience Australia (GA)] first acquired reconnaissance airborne magnetic and radiometric data in the Northern Territory at Rum Jungle in 1952. Dates of first release: Magnetic Map - 2000; Elevation Map - 2002; Radiometric Map - 2003; Gravity Map - 2004.
Ninety-one percent of the area of the NT is covered by data from 53 separate NTGS and Geoscience Australia semi-detailed airborne surveys flown since 1974. These data were acquired along flight lines spaced 150-500 m apart. The remaining portion of the NT is made up of reconnaissance BMR surveys, which typically employed flight line spacings of around 1.5-3.2 km.
The Magnetic and Radiometric maps make use of data from all 53 surveys, whereas the Elevation Map only includes, where available, GPS-derived height data from surveys flown since 1993. Backdrop to the Elevation Map is provided by the GEODATA 9 Second DEM, resampled to 100 m. The Gravity Map incorporates data primarily from the 11 km grid of stations collected by BMR in the 1960s and 1970s, augmented by many detailed private sector surveys (interpolated to 200 m), two 4 km datasets collected jointly by NTGS and GA in the Tanami and Tennant regions, and more recently (2003) a 2 km airborne dataset.
All four maps are updated as new semi-regional surveys are acquired by NTGS and added to the public domain database. They are currently available in several forms:
* Hardcopy at 1:2.5M scale. Total Magnetic Intensity, Elevation and Gravity data are rendered in pseudocolour with the intensity stretched and synthetically sun-illuminated. The three elements of Radiometric data, potassium-thorium-uranium, are assigned to red-green-blue, respectively, whereas the intensity is the total count, high-pass filtered.
* Digitally, as an ER Mapper .ERS (approximately 700 Mb uncompressed) and MapInfo .TAB, on CD-ROM from the Minerals and Energy Information Centre. Grid-merging of individual datasets has been undertaken using a mesh size of 100 m.
* Digitally, as an ER Mapper compressed .ECW (geolocated image) on Image Web Server.

English material predominates, but the Library's holdings of Dutch, French and German atlases are substantial and there are also many atlases from other European countries, as well as those of Arabic, Persian and Oriental origin. Details of publication, provenance, colour and binding are provided, together with an itemisation of each map, cross references where applicable and scholarly source material. This is a two volume set with a CD-ROM index, not available separately.

Description: This product is a globally seamless adaptation of the U.S. Government's Digital Chart of the World (Vector Smart Map Level 0 [VMap0], Edition 5) produced by Global Mapping International in ESRI shapefile format, with added country polygons and updated first-level subdivisions of countries. The underlying Digital Chart of the World was developed by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (now the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency)of the U.S. government. GMI has merged the DCW into seamless, global shapefile layers (the original consists of four separate libraries, each divided into dozens of tiles).
GMI has also provided sample map project and layer files applying appropriate cartographic symbology to the complex classification system of VMap0). The VMap0 data was compiled from the Operational Navigational Chart (ONC) series of air navigation maps with a scale of 1:1,000,000.
Full information about VMAP Level 0, edition 5 is contained in MIL-PRF-89039 "PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION - VECTOR SMART MAP (VMap) Level 0" as amended (VMAP0_spec.pdf)
GMI has also provided sample map project and layer files applying appropriate cartographic symbology to the complex classification system of VMap 0 when using the shapefiles in ArcGIS version 8.3 and above.
