Description: Toporama – Topographic Maps
One of the Atlas of Canada’s special 100th Anniversary projects is offering topographical maps for all of Canada. These new maps are the next generation of the Centre for Topographic Information’s very successful Toporama product. The National Topographic System (NTS) provides general-purpose topographic map coverage of Canada. These maps depict, in detail, ground relief (landforms and terrain), drainage (lakes and rivers), forest cover, administrative areas, populated areas, transportation routes and facilities (including roads and railways), and other constructed features. The maps show data from the 1:250 000 and 1:50 000 National Topographic Databases.

Description: Canada3D is a digital elevation model (DEM) produced by the Canadian Forestry Service, Ontario region. The DEM consists of an ordered array of ground elevations providing coverage of the entire Canadian landmass. It has been derived from the cells of the Canadian Digital Elevation Data (CDED) at the 1:250 000 scale. Canada3D is available in two forms: grids regularly spaced at 30 or 300 arc-seconds. Canada3D 30 and 300 are recorded separately in ASCII text file format. The elevation values are expressed in metres with respect to mean sea level (MSL), in accordance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83).
DEMs now play a major role in digital mapping. They are used in geographic information systems (GIS) for land-management applications. In addition, they perform the same function as contours and relief shading on conventional paper maps but offer greater analytical potential. DEMs can also be used for terrain modeling, for calculating the influence of the terrain on line-of-sight, for radar imaging, for simulating flooding, and similar applications.

Description: EcoMAP (Ecological Mapping Analysis and Protocols) is a suite of geospatial data sets and analysis applications which has been developed by GeoInsight Corporation and A.M. Turner and Associates over the past three years with support from a number of government agencies. EcoMAP is built on the premise that by aggregating diverse data sets to a common geographic framework, spatial analysis can be used to derive and present complex ecological information. Such information is needed to guide the development of consistent policies and programs which are required for conservation and sustainable resource management. Parts of the EcoMAP database have also been used to present a national perspective of many ecological themes through the National Atlas of Canada. In order to provide continuity the EcoMAP name has been adopted for the National Atlas ecological module.

Description: This CD-ROM has been created as a companion to the 1996 printed Geological Map of Canada (Map 1860A).
The CD-ROM is not just a digital version of Map 1860A:
it contains a complete bilingual GIS spatial database from which a variety of thematic geological maps can be
created. Map 1860A is just one of those themes.
Included on the CD-ROM are all of the Arc/Info files used in the production of the printed map, including a
bilingual database. In addition, the data is provided in several
common interchange formats (*.E00, *.SHP).
This CD-ROM also includes a limited edition of SurView, a viewing application for Microsoft Windows,
developed at the Geological Survey of Canada and originally
released as GSC Open File 2661. Surview can display, print, and query the *.SHP files. This provides an
opportunity for those without specialized GIS software to delve
into the realm of digital geoscience data and explore the new Geological Map of Canada on their own PC

Description: The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) provides Canadians with access to information on the releases and transfers of key pollutants in their communities. It is the only national, legislated, publicly accessible inventory of its kind in Canada.
The NPRI is a major starting point for identifying and monitoring sources of pollution in Canada. It is an important consideration in managing risks to the environment and human health as well as in monitoring indicators for the quality of our air, land, and water. It is also emerging as an indicator for corporate environmental performance.
